Snow Dawg - BikeNet Member Event

Snow Dawg Race Day Updates:
All racers should have received an email with their number and start time. Check your spam folder, then reach out if you can't find what you need: laramiebikenet@gmail.com
First Things First!
Know your Number Plate # and Starting Group time. Make your own number plate so that we can record your times for the 5 timed stages on the ride loop as well as qualify for the "Best Number Plate Award". *Don't forget to bring your number plate on the day of the event/ride.
The time listed is the 15-minute window that we ask you to depart from the Happy Jack Parking Lot and begin your ride to Stage 1. It will take you about 10-15 minutes to reach the Stage 1 Start from the parking lot. Each rider will start at 1-minute intervals by the timing official upon arrival at each Stage Start. Once you complete the stage you will continue the loop to each of the consecutive stages where timing officials will continue the 1-minute start intervals to maintain safe distances between riders and ensure accurate timing.
You may take your time to recover while riding between each of the timed stages as the transitions are not timed.
Rider Conduct
If you approach another rider/racer in front of you. Please let them know that you are approaching and kindly ask to pass when appropriate and safe. Likewise, if you are approached by a faster rider please try to yield at your earliest convenience. Always, yield to other riders coming uphill or any other trail-users coming in either direction.
* Remember that this is a "FUN RIDE" to celebrate the great winter trail access that we have at the Pole Mountain area. Please respect each other and our wonderful natural environment.
Course Route and Stage Info.
The course route and specific stage information are indicated on the image include below. Please download this image to your phone so that you have it for reference if needed. We will not be providing paper maps at the race. Each stage timer will have a copy of the map for you to refer to if needed. In the meantime. The entire course will be marked with PINK flagging and RED arrows. Each stage start/finish is also clearly indicated with large signs.
Race Day Check-in
Please check-in with, Christy and Melissa, at the race table located at the entrance to the Pole Creek trail in the Happy Jack Parking Lot. They will be the ones at the table with the sign-in sheet. Once you do that, you will be directed to the STAGE 1 start by riding up the Pole Creek Trail to the Snowshoe Trail (see map). If you have any other questions or concerns, Race Director Rico will be the one in the BLAZE Orange vest.
Race Day Check-out
Please let us know at the Check-in/out table that you completed the course so that we don't send the hounds out looking for you. Also, grab some tasty beverages from COAL CREEK TAP, BONDS BREWING, or a non-alcohol drink to take with you for the cheers at the Virtual After Party.
Results
Full Results will be posted here RESULTS starting at 7 pm when the Virtual After Party begins.
Conditions
As of today, Friday, we are getting 2-4" of lovely fresh powder on a 4-8” base. The trails will be freshly groomed on Saturday morning when we mark the course. This could be the best riding conditions we've had so far this year. The course seems to be in great condition with the backside (Express, Crow Creek) area softer than the rest of the front side trails that have been more heavily used throughout the season. Enjoy!
Questions, Concerns, Comments
Feel free to email us at larmiebikenet@gmail.com if you have any questions, concerns, or comments about the Snow Dawg event. Also, PLEASE notify us by email if you do NOT intend to attend the event. This is important so that we can open a slot for someone else and so that we know exactly who to be expecting at the event.
Enjoy!

Rolling Starts: the first start is at 8:00 am
Last Stage: Closes at 12 noon
Snow Dawg Details:
This is a members FUN fat bike event on open trails. Compete to be the TopDawg or join us for a leisurely ride with friends.
We’re raising money to keep the trails groomed all winter long! The event is free, but we’re asking participants to donate $20 to the Snow Dawg fund if they are able. Make your donation to winter trail packing on this page.
Sunday, January 23rd (First Stage starts at 8am, Final Stage closes at 12 noon) at the Happy Jack MUT Trails (Starting and ending at the Happy Jack parking lot and Trailhead).
- 5 timed individual stages (2 climbing, 3 descending) or an untimed fun ride.
- Human-powered Fat Bikes only (minimum 3.8 inch wide tires, no eBikes).
By Wednesday, January 19th, you will be assigned a start time and ride number (to put on your homemade number plate). This is to reduce clustering and maintain physical distancing. Riders will start at 1-minute intervals for each stage. Riders who miss their start are Bad Dawgs and will be started after the Good Dawgs and punished accordingly with a time penalty. Riders coming up to complete the loop at a leisurely pace and not be timed will start after the last timed rider.
Prizes for first-place Female & Male finishers in 3 categories: Fastest Climber, Fastest Descender, TopDawg (combined overall), and for the Best Number plate. Any individual will only be awarded a prize in one category. If an individual is fastest in more than one category, the next fastest person will be awarded the prize for the alternate category in the order listed above.
- This is a FUN ride and not an official World Cup race so please behave accordingly. The trails are open to ALL users on this day, just like any other. If you come across other bikers, hikers, skiers, dogs, moose, mountain lions, etc please pay them the appropriate respect and observe proper trail etiquette (YIELD to them).
Healthy Dawg COVID Requirements:
Clean your paws before you come. You must wear a muzzle (mask) at the start and when waiting to start a stage (aka within 6 ft of others). We recommend that you wear a muzzle (mask) that you can easily pull up and down such as a neck gaiter. Bring your own treats and don't drink from the same water dish. If you're not feeling well do NOT come in-person, but do join us over Zoom in the evening if you're up to it.
NO Barking! We’re ALL here to have FUN. Remember to thank your volunteers!
Dawgs Digging for more Details:
This is a member event to celebrate cycling in SE Wyoming. We are pleased to organize this ride and social activity while also acknowledging and practicing appropriate COVID-19 protocol and behavior.
This timed ride is limited to 70 people and will be an individual time trial event of 5 stages where you will be competing against the clock through 5 separate sections of trail. This format will allow the participants to maintain appropriate distances from one another as there are no mass starts or finishes. When waiting to start a stage or upon completing a stage, please beware of your physical distancing (at least 6 feet) and cover your face when waiting.
The course:
The ride will be one single loop which will include 2 climbing stages and 3 downhill stages. There will be “transfer stages” (untimed, casual riding) between each of the timed stages which will allow for you to share some time and conversation with your fellow BikeNet members out on the trail, at a safe social distance of course.
The loop (aprox. 11 miles), and the specific stage segments will be announced at 5pm on Saturday, January 22nd (the evening before the event). This is to provide an added “blind” experience. There will be markings along the entire course to indicate the route and identify each stage start/finish. Ride volunteers will be at each stage start and finish to record your time. The only thing you need to do is ride the course and have fun.
To start the ride:
You must make your own number plate that has your assigned number clearly legible in the middle and have the plate clearly and securely attached to the front of your handlebars. You must sign-in at the Stage 1 start before you begin the ride. Please go to the stage 1 start no more than 15-minutes prior to your assigned start time. You will receive that information a few days before the event.
Completing the ride:
You must begin stage 1 within 15 minutes of your assigned race time window and you must have begun stage 5 by 12 noon. Those are the times when timing will be available. Outside of those times you are of course free to ride your own ride. If you are registered and start Stage 1, you are expected to complete the loop and all 5 stages. You have to complete the loop and all stages to be eligible for prizes. If you do NOT complete the loop or all 5 stages you MUST let one of the race organizers or stage timers know so that we are not waiting till the wee hours of the night for you.
Between stages:
The course is a loop and only specific sections are timed, the riding from one stage to the next is untimed and therefore your time to chill, eat, drink, chat, and calmly enjoy the day. We call it “party pace”, but don't party too hard. All riders must have started the last stage before noon.
WAIT! There’s more:
Once you finish the loop and all 5 stages you are free to go about your day. However, we would love for you to join the Closing Ceremonies and Race Results After Party at 7pm that same day on ZOOM. We will announce the winners, post the results for all riders, and celebrate a good time had by all. Don’t miss it.
Weather and conditions permitting:
If the weather or conditions are not ideal for Dawgs to be out there we will postpone or cancel. If you became a member just for this event you will not receive a refund if we have to cancel, but know that your membership funds are used to make cycling safe, convenient, and FUN in SE Wyoming, there are additional member benefits, and we will have more member events to come!
NO Barking! We’re ALL here to have FUN. Remember to thank your volunteers!
Registration:
Opens - Thursday, December 23rd @ 8:00AM.
Closes - Wednesday, January 19 @ 11:59PM
